Mosaic labels are a product that really do utilise the full power of digital technology. In the past if a client asked for variable labels that would normally mean a static background with only a certain detail changing, typically such as a sequential number or unique code. Mosaic label technology has totally changed this, and it is creating brand new opportunities for marketing and personalisation of packaging.
What are mosaic labels?
Mosaic labels are labels printed using a technology where every single label within a run can be uniquely different. Whilst this isn’t anything necessarily new in the digital labels market, in the past end users had to supply a separate file for each label – which just isn’t viable for runs of hundreds or even thousands of labels.
How do they work?
Mosaic technology works by supplying a large single image, such as a photo, pattern or collage, which is much bigger than the final label size. Every time a label is printed the software selects a certain ‘segment’ of the larger image, dropping it into a predetermined area on the label.
Can I have certain sections of the label the same through the run?
Yes, only certain areas of the label need to be deemed variable. So for instance you can have a run of 1000 unique labels, but keep details like your logo, company details and product name static through the run.
I want embellishments on my labels?
Not a problem, our plateless digital technology means features such as spot varnishing, foiling or even embossing can be utilised as variable elements on each label.
