Chlorophyll Water Bottles Using CleanFlake Labels

Chlorophyll Water has transitioned to bottles made from 100% recycled plastic (rPET) with CleanFlake recycled label technology. These 100% rPET bottles are crafted from food-grade recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET). The plastic is recycled as per the technologies approved by the U.S. FDA and European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) for food-grade recycled material and repurposed into new PET bottles, reducing the need for virgin plastic for producing PET Bottles.

“As a brand, Chlorophyll Water is committed to sustainability and implementation of new ideas and technology which can improve the impact that packaging has on our environment,” explains founder Matt Levine, “in utilizing bottles made from 100% recycled plastic, our intention is to make a truly meaningful and lasting environmental impact – addressing the plastic waste challenge, minimizing our use of virgin, fossil-fuel based packaging.” The transition to rPET not only reduces plastic waste, but also can reduce CO2 emissions in the process, with some studies showing that rPET can result in up to a 79% reduction in carbon emissions when compared to new material.

To accompany their bottle made from 100% recycled plastic, Chlorophyll Water selected Avery Dennison’s CleanFlake technology as their label to help improve the yield of high-quality, food grade PET in the recycling process. CleanFlake technology is built on a water-based adhesive technology that separates cleanly from PET during the caustic wash stage of the recycling process. No adhesive residue remains on the plastic, meaning it can be processed into clean, high quality, recycled PET flakes. CleanFlake technology ensures that Chlorophyll Water’s labels cleanly separate during the recycling process increasing the yields of pure PET flakes.

In the pursuit of optimal health and well-being, individuals are increasingly turning to nature’s wonders for solutions. One such powerhouse of nutrients gaining popularity is chlorophyll—the green pigment responsible for photosynthesis in plants. Beyond its role in sustaining plant life, chlorophyll has been recognized for its potential health benefits when incorporated into the human diet. Let’s delve into the remarkable health benefits of adding chlorophyll to your daily routine.

Powerful Antioxidant Properties:

Chlorophyll boasts potent antioxidant properties, helping to combat oxidative stress within the body. Antioxidants play a crucial role in neutralizing free radicals, unstable molecules that can damage cells and contribute to aging and various chronic diseases. By incorporating chlorophyll-rich foods or supplements into your routine, you can support your body’s defense against oxidative damage.

Detoxification and Cleansing:

Chlorophyll has been lauded for its detoxifying effects. It is believed to bind to and eliminate toxins, heavy metals, and other harmful substances from the body. This natural detoxification process may help support liver function, the body’s primary organ for filtering and eliminating toxins. Including chlorophyll in your daily routine can aid in promoting a cleaner, healthier internal environment.

Alkalizing the Body:

Maintaining a slightly alkaline environment in the body is crucial for overall health. Many processed foods and lifestyle factors can contribute to acidity. Chlorophyll-rich foods, such as green leafy vegetables, can help balance the body’s pH levels, creating an environment less conducive to the development of certain diseases and inflammation.

Supporting Healthy Skin:

Chlorophyll has been linked to improved skin health. Its anti-inflammatory and wound-healing properties may contribute to a clearer complexion and faster healing of skin issues. Additionally, chlorophyll’s ability to neutralize free radicals can aid in preventing premature aging and promoting a youthful appearance.

Boosting Haemoglobin Production:

The molecular structure of chlorophyll closely resembles that of haemoglobin—the oxygen-carrying molecule in red blood cells. Some studies suggest that consuming chlorophyll may help stimulate the production of haemoglobin and improve oxygen transport throughout the body. This can potentially enhance energy levels and combat fatigue.

Enhancing Digestive Health:

Chlorophyll has been associated with promoting a healthy digestive system. Its anti-inflammatory properties may soothe the digestive tract, while its detoxifying effects can support the elimination of waste and toxins. Incorporating chlorophyll-rich foods can contribute to a well-functioning digestive system and may help alleviate issues such as bloating and constipation.

Adding chlorophyll to your daily routine can be a simple yet powerful step toward enhancing your overall health. Whether obtained through a diet rich in green, leafy vegetables or via chlorophyll supplements, the potential benefits, including antioxidant support, detoxification, skin health, and improved energy levels, make it a compelling addition to a holistic approach to well-being. As with any dietary change, it’s advisable to consult with a healthcare professional to ensure that chlorophyll supplementation aligns with your individual health needs. Embrace the vibrant green goodness of chlorophyll and unlock the numerous health benefits it has to offer.

The Clean Label Project is a national nonprofit with the mission to bring truth and transparency to consumer product labelling and consumer product safety issues – heavy metals, pesticide residues and plasticizers, other chemicals of concern and truth in labelling. For food and consumer product safety regulatory fabric in America is largely focused on pathogen & microbiological contaminants.

Clean Label Project™ is a national non-profit with the mission to bring truth and transparency to consumer food labelling. The foundation of food and consumer product safety in America is primarily focused on pathogen and microbiological contaminants. However, there is an increase in consumer, media, and academic attention being paid to the health consequences of exposure to heavy metals, pesticide residues, and plasticizers. Yet, consumers will never find this information on product labels.

They are committed to changing the definition of food and consumer safety through the use of data, science, and transparency. They award brands with products that place an emphasized focus on purity and surpass the minimum regulations required by FDA. At Clean Label Project, they encourage brands to join them in becoming part of the solution to address the growing consumer concern of industrial & environmental contaminants and toxins in both food and consumer products.

For categories where Clean Label Project does not have benchmarked data to warrant a Clean Label Project Purity Award, Clean Label Project borrows a page out the State of California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986. Informally known as Proposition 65, this regulation was enacted as a ballot initiative in November 1986. It considered the strictest regulation in the country when it comes to protecting consumers from industrial & environmental contaminants and chemicals of concern. Proposition 65 aims to protect the state’s drinking water sources from being contaminated with chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm, and requires businesses to inform Californians about exposures to such chemicals.

CleanFlake Labels

First introduced in 2013, CleanFlake technology solves a critical problem in PET plastic recycling by helping to ensure that a label’s adhesive stays with the label and not on the packaging so that all label material fully detaches during the recycling process. The resulting washed PET flakes can then be recycled into new PET packaging. Flakes that are otherwise contaminated by conventional label materials must be downcycled or sent to landfills or incinerators.

With new adhesive and topcoat, CleanFlake now helps more PET packages in more market segments complete the recycling process, with printability and performance equal to conventional label constructions. ‘More than ever, CleanFlake helps brands keep the promise of PET,’ said Avery Dennison’s product manager Mariya Nedelcheva. ‘Companies that use PET packaging no longer have to choose between true recyclability and outstanding performance when it comes to their labels. We are closing the gap between CleanFlake materials and conventional, general-purpose label materials. For companies that care about recyclability, the question now is not why they would use CleanFlake, but why they wouldn’t.’

According to the company, with a new proprietary adhesive, SR3011N, CleanFlake materials look and perform like any other self-adhesive label material. An upgraded topcoat provides outstanding printability, and CleanFlake materials are designed to deliver fast, flawless application on high-speed labelling machines. New facestocks offer the same attractive, no-label look like comparable Avery Dennison materials. Products in the CleanFlake portfolio comply with Petcore guidelines for trays and are certified by Institut Cyclos-HTP. Endorsement by the European PET Bottle Platform (EPBP) is pending.

Developed to advance the recycling of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) containers, Avery Dennison’s CleanFlake portfolio features a water-based, recyclable adhesive, which cleanly separates during the PET Plastic recycling process. The adhesive adheres to the PET bottle until the very end of its lifecycle, when the cohesive bond is broken at the recycler in the sink/float process. This allows the facestock and adhesive to cleanly separate from the PET flake resulting in pure PET flakes, the conservation of virgin PET resources, and less landfill waste. Available in clear or white BOPP film facestocks and now a 54# semi-gloss paper, CleanFlake is the first complete solution to address PET plastic recycling.

Key Features

  • Enhance thermoform container and PET bottle-to-bottle recycling, increasing rPET supply
  • The caustic wash breaks the cohesive bond allowing the label to separate cleanly
  • Plug & Play solution – compatible with existing value chain
  • No adhesive residue remains on PET flakes, meaning no contamination
  • Passes the highest form of testing available from the APR
