These are labels that are produced on a clear OPP or PET backing, for which there are two main uses. The first is for the ‘no label look’, also known as clear on clear. By having a clear liner it gives the label itself superior clarity and smoothness, where traditional glassine backing may lend itself to some marking. The second is for very high speed automatic applications, such as milk labeling. At high speed, the tension on traditional backing papers may have a tendancy to prove problematic or even snap in some cases. A filmic backing would stop this occurring.
