Walmart requires all the manufacturers supplying own-label food to it to adhere to the new date labeling to prevent food wastage. There have been many cases of food wastage due to the date labels. In a move to advocate for prevention of food wastage, Walmart is determined to make their suppliers comply with the new date labeling. This conclusion was brought about after Walmart carried a research on their suppliers and realized that they were using as many as 47 different types of date labels. Then they further carried out the research on digital food labeling on their customers and found out that ‘best used by’ dates were used to indicate the foods quality. Although, this date does not indicate that the food is not edible after that day most consumer would opt not to consume it.
